Booking a rooftop in Paris for an event: the guide

The short answer To book a rooftop in Paris, choose the right type of venue (hotel, department store, bar, event venue or building roof), aim for May to September, plan a wet-weather fallback, check the constraints (neighbours, music curfews, access, security) and book several months ahead. Capacities and rates vary widely between venues: always confirm them directly with the venue.

Paris from above is an unbeatable argument. Zinc roofs, the Eiffel Tower sparkling, the sun setting over the chimney pots: your guests arrive, head upstairs, and the evening is a success before the first drink.

But a rooftop is also a demanding venue. Weather, neighbours, lifts, curfews, permits: there are plenty of pitfalls. Here is what we check every time before booking a Paris rooftop for a launch, a corporate party or a brand dinner.

01

Why a rooftop (and when it doesn't work)

View Sunset Wow factor

A rooftop offers what no function room can: the city as your backdrop. No need for over-the-top set design, the view does much of the work. It's ideal for drinks receptions, product launches, summer parties or a dinner facing the sunset.

It isn't the right idea for everything, though. A plenary with screens and long speeches, an event in midwinter, a very large group or a format that needs loud sound late into the night: in those cases, we steer you towards an indoor venue, perhaps with a terrace on the side.

Types of rooftops in Paris

Hotels Department stores Private roofs

Rooftops come in several families. Hotels often have elegant terraces with in-house service. Department stores sometimes open their roofs for events outside trading hours. Bars and restaurants up high can be hired in full or in part. Some event venues are designed to be hired from the outset. And then there are the roofs of residential blocks, offices or car parks, rarer and needing more preparation.

Each family has its own logic: in-house or open catering, full or partial exclusive hire, more or less flexible hours. The right choice depends on your format, guest numbers and the image you want to project.

A few iconic addresses

Le Perchoir Le Georges Les Ombres

Among the addresses every Parisian knows: Le Perchoir and its high-up terraces, the rooftop at Terrass" Hotel in Montmartre, the Mama Shelter roofs, Le Georges on the top floor of the Centre Pompidou, the panoramic terrace at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Les Ombres on the roof of the musée du quai Branly facing the Eiffel Tower, and Kong with its glass roof above the Pont-Neuf.

These are landmarks, not a closed list. Hire conditions, capacities and availability vary by venue and season: always confirm them directly with each venue. We also know less obvious roofs, perfect when you're after the element of surprise.

Weather and the plan B

Rain Marquee Indoor fallback

Rooftop season in Paris runs roughly from May to September. Even in high summer, a shower or a strong wind can change everything. The rule is simple: never book a roof without a plan B.

Depending on the venue, the plan B might be a marquee or covered structure, parasols and heaters, or an indoor space held in parallel. We agree a decision time with you, the day before or on the day, so you can switch calmly if the forecast turns.

05

Constraints to plan for

Neighbours Access Security

A roof is first and foremost a building with neighbours. Music hours and volume are often restricted, and some venues close early. Access matters too: number and size of lifts, stairs, step-free access for guests with reduced mobility, and how caterers and kit get up there.

Then come security (railings, permitted capacity, staff), the venue's own rules and, for some formats or unconventional spaces, permits to apply for. We always do a technical visit before confirming anything.

06

Budget and timing

Budget Booking Quote

A rooftop budget depends on the venue, the day, the season, the length of hire and everything added around it: catering, drinks, furniture, lighting, sound, security, plan B. A Thursday in June doesn't cost the same as a Tuesday in September.

On timing, the best terraces go quickly for the summer season: it pays to start several months ahead. We send you a quote detailed line by line, so you know exactly what you're paying for.

Our checklist before you start

Aim for a date between May and September. Ask for the exact permitted capacity and what it covers, standing or seated. Check finishing times and music rules. Confirm access, lifts and step-free access. Book your plan B when you sign, not the night before. And always visit in person, ideally at the time of your event, to see the light and feel the wind.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire a rooftop in Paris?

It depends hugely on the venue, date, length of hire, guest numbers and added services. There's no standard price. We build a quote detailed line by line from your brief.

How far ahead should you book a rooftop in Paris?

For the May to September season, allow several months, especially for a Thursday or Friday. Off-season or midweek, lead times can be shorter, but the choice narrows quickly.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Plan a fallback from the start: a marquee or covered structure, or an indoor space held in parallel. We set a decision time so you can switch without stress.

How many guests can a Paris rooftop hold?

It varies a lot from roof to roof, and the permitted capacity may differ standing or seated. Always confirm capacity directly with the venue.

Do you need permits for a rooftop event?

In a venue already run for events, the framework is generally set by the venue. For an unconventional roof or a specific installation, permits may be needed. We check this upfront with the venue.

A great rooftop event is a view, good light and invisible organisation. Your guests will only see the sunset, and that's exactly the point.
